Microsoft Clarity checker
Check if Microsoft Clarity is installed on your site, flag duplicate or render-blocking loads, then confirm sessions in your Clarity project.
Scans the page's HTML in seconds. It also reports every other tracking script it finds.
about Microsoft Clarity
Why it breaks quietly.
Microsoft Clarity is a free session recording and heatmap tool. Its snippet loads from clarity.ms with your project ID and starts capturing sessions.
Clarity rarely errors visibly. Sessions take time to show up, consent requirements can limit capture in some regions, and a blocked script or wrong project ID just looks like a quiet dashboard.
what the free scan checks
Whether Microsoft Clarity is in the page
The scan fetches the page's HTML and matches the vendor's script URL and install snippet.
Whether it blocks rendering
A script tag without async or defer delays the page from painting. Marketing scripts never need to.
Whether it's installed more than once
Duplicate installs usually send every event twice and inflate conversions.
How exposed the page is to blockers
A server-side readiness grade: whether tags load from domains blocklists target, and whether conversions have a server-side path.
It reads the HTML, so tags injected later (inside GTM, for example) don't show up, and it can't see events fire. That's what verification is for.
common failures
How Microsoft Clarity goes dark.
The project ID belongs to another project
A snippet copied from another site sends sessions to that project.
Consent signals are not passed
Clarity has a consent API, and Microsoft requires consent signals for visitors in some regions such as the EEA. Without them, capture for those visitors is limited.
A content security policy blocks clarity.ms
If your CSP does not allow Clarity's domains, the browser blocks the script and data never arrives.
Installed twice
A CMS plugin plus a GTM tag can load Clarity twice on the same page.
by hand
Check it yourself, step by step.
- 1
Open your Clarity project's settings and check the setup or installation status.
- 2
Browse the live site in a private window, then look for your session in Recordings. New sessions are not instant, so allow some time.
- 3
In Chrome DevTools, filter the Network tab for clarity.ms and confirm collect requests succeed.
- 4
View the page source and confirm the project ID in the snippet matches your Clarity project.
questions
Asked and answered.
Can this check tell me if Clarity is recording sessions?+
No. It scans served HTML and can see whether the Clarity snippet is present, duplicated or render-blocking. It cannot see Clarity loaded by GTM or confirm sessions are captured. TracerKit's Verification tier watches real fires and alerts when a tag goes silent.
Why is Clarity showing no recordings?+
Give it time after install, then check the project ID, your CSP, and whether consent is being granted.
Can Clarity and Hotjar run together?+
Yes, but they record the same sessions, so most sites only need one.
