Pinterest Tag checker
Check if the Pinterest Tag is installed on your site, flag duplicate or render-blocking loads, and verify checkout events by hand.
Scans the page's HTML in seconds. It also reports every other tracking script it finds.
about Pinterest Tag
Why it breaks quietly.
The Pinterest Tag loads core.js from s.pinimg.com and starts with pintrk('load') and your tag ID. It reports page visits and events like checkout so Pinterest ads can attribute sales and build audiences.
It breaks the same way other pixels do: quietly. A missing pintrk('page') call, a checkout event with no value, or a second install all change what Pinterest reports without any visible error.
what the free scan checks
Whether Pinterest Tag is in the page
The scan fetches the page's HTML and matches the vendor's script URL and install snippet.
Whether it blocks rendering
A script tag without async or defer delays the page from painting. Marketing scripts never need to.
Whether it's installed more than once
Duplicate installs usually send every event twice and inflate conversions.
How exposed the page is to blockers
A server-side readiness grade: whether tags load from domains blocklists target, and whether conversions have a server-side path.
It reads the HTML, so tags injected later (inside GTM, for example) don't show up, and it can't see events fire. That's what verification is for.
common failures
How Pinterest Tag goes dark.
Checkout events carry no value
The checkout event needs value, currency and order quantity to report revenue. Without them, Pinterest counts orders but cannot show return on ad spend.
pintrk('page') is missing
The base code loads the tag, but page visits are recorded by the page call. Leave it out and Pinterest sees the tag without page activity.
The tag is installed twice
A platform app and a hardcoded snippet both load it, so events are sent twice.
Browser and API events are not deduplicated
If you also use the Pinterest Conversions API, both sides need a shared event_id or each sale is counted twice.
by hand
Check it yourself, step by step.
- 1
Install the Pinterest Tag Helper Chrome extension, load your site and confirm it shows one tag ID with the events you expect.
- 2
In Pinterest Ads Manager, open Conversions and review recent event activity for your tag.
- 3
Run a test checkout and confirm the checkout event includes value, currency and order quantity.
- 4
In Chrome DevTools, filter the Network tab for ct.pinterest.com and confirm one request per event.
questions
Asked and answered.
Can this check tell me if Pinterest Tag events are firing?+
No. It reads the served HTML and can see whether the Pinterest Tag is present, duplicated or render-blocking. It cannot see a tag loaded by GTM or confirm events reach Pinterest. TracerKit's Verification tier watches real fires and alerts when a tag goes silent.
Why is Pinterest reporting fewer checkouts than my store?+
Ad blockers, browser privacy limits and attribution windows all reduce browser-side counts. The Conversions API with deduplication recovers part of that.
Where do I find my Pinterest tag ID?+
In Pinterest Ads Manager under Conversions. It should match the ID in pintrk('load') on your site.
